“Rio Loco is always special in the sense that the artists usually come
from the same country… but this year, the connections between artists seem particularly tight.”
- Katharina Kane, FLY MAGAZINE: Global Music Culture

Every year, Rio Loco (meaning ‘crazy river’) tickles the waves of La
Garonne with the sounds that blow across the river of another country. The Amazon brought the whole
spectrum of Brazilian music to Toulouse in 2005, and this year
2006, the River Senegal teased the town with the intricate rhythms and
soaring melodies of of West Africa’s most musical nation. The opening
night’s closing party featured MARQUE GILMORE’s DRUM-FM
project in a ‘live-remix’ extravaganza of Senegalese,
Mandeng & West African music along with the futuristic sound of
his humanitarian-based electronic music project The CULTURE
CHRONICS with ‘JazzheadChronic DJ’ MICKEY SMITH, collaborating with some of Senegal-in-Europe’s
finest: LANDING MANÉ & SECKOU KIETA.

Next year, the soft shores of the Garonne will resound with music
from Spain, and preparations are in full swing with DRUM-FM specially re-invited to perform for the
CLOSING NIGHT PARTY with a brand new
“Interactive-Chronic-Sonic-Spanish-Remix!”

New Recording Project with KATIA LaBEQUE:

"Beatles: Across the Universe"

Produced by renowned internationally acclaimed classical
pianist KATIA LaBEQUE and supported by Italy’s RAI Radio, comes a special recording and live
audio-visual performance tribute to the Beatles....as 20th century composers!

This project features performances and arrangements from some of
Europe’s top classical artists alongside artists from the international electronica
underground & future music scenes: including Katia Labeque;
Russian-born virtuoso violinist VIKTORIA MULLOVA; cellist/composer GIOVANNI SOLLIMA;
Italian Visual Arts Innovator FABIO MASSIMO IAQUONE; underground French rocker DAVID CHALMIN;
avant-garde Jazz bassist MASSIMO PUPILLO; multi-media composer NICOLA TESCARI; all underpinned
and grooved by drummer/producer MARQUE GILMORE, who is also
producing the sonic interludes and a remix album for the project due
for official release in mid-2007.

If re-interpreting the songs of The Beatles
is no easy task, just as challenging is to transform them into images to
create an architecture of sound and vision where performance and
narration mix. Across the Universe is therefore much more than a
concert with images. The idea for Across the Universe was conceived partly within the framework of the
Labèque foundation (www.fondazionekml.com) whose
aim is to be a workshop for new talents as well as a venue for the meeting and exchange of ideas for
artist coming from various sectors:
music, cinema, theatre, literature, video, art.

The Katia Labèque Band:

Following a steady evolution during the past three years, the Katia
Labèque Band's core trio of Dave Maric, Marque Gilmore and of
course Katia has reached a defining moment. After an intensive period
of creativity, Maric's compositions and arrangements written
specifically for this line up were recorded for the debut album 'Unspoken'.

The band performed the high profile debut of this new project at
the Royal Festival Hall where they launched the London Jazz Festival in November 2003. The concert was
one of the subjects for BBC 4's documentary on the festival.
A week following the RFH performance the band travelled to Austria to perform in the prestigious
and predominantly classical Lucerne Festival - an unusual event
for a normally quite conservative setting.

Rome and Salzburg:
In March 2004, Roma University-3 invited the band to spend a week in
residence at Rome's Teatro Palladium - a venue which presents a huge variety of concerts from
classical opera to experimental electronic dance music. The University supported and facilitated
a collaboration between the band and Italian video artist Fabio
Massimo Iaquone, who used the music of 'Unspoken' as the basis for an extraordinarily beautiful film.

This project was presented at the Salzburg Festival under the invitation of Sir Simon Rattle.
The band's performance was a radical departure for a particularly traditional festival. The concert was
promoted in a venue called Republic - an old Salzburg cinema that has been converted into a
hybrid cafe/nightclub/live performance venue.

The 2005 UK Tour:
November 2005, The Katia Labèque Band did a special UK tour with
guests Viktoria Mullova and guitarist/composer Fred Frith (head
of Jazz/Improvisation at Mills College, Oakland, CA/USA since 1999). Supported by Arts Council
England's Contemporary Music Network (CMN) the tour featured music specially commissioned for
this tour by BBC Radio 3.

STATE OF BENGAL is one of the Key Dj / Producers to have emerged from the Cutting Edge British Asian Music scene that emerged in the late 90's that gave birth to the 'Asian Underground' movement. His reputation as one of the most innovative and pioneering artists is still held today as he continues to pushes the boundaries with his varied projects and albums.

His reputation as an innovative and exciting producer / Dj was projected further at the cutting edge Anokha club nites where he was one of the Key Dj's. His music and unique Dj style of weaving an eclectic mix , from Indian Classical, breakbeat, Hip-Hop, tabla driven beats, melodic vocals to smashed up beats and funk was instrumental in the success and aesthetic of the highly acclaimed club nite. His eruptive tracks Flight IC408 and Chittagong Chill, featured on Talvin Singh's Anokha compilation became the anthems of the scene, the industry and media hailed the tracks as groundbreaking and they still have the power to explode the dance floor today. SOB's respected reputation ensured him to be courted by several major labels, culminating in a deal with Indie Label, One Little Indian in Sep 97. It was at Anokha; Bjork discovered and fell in love with SOB's music and unique Djing style, She was so inspired that she asked him to open for her world tour and remix the track 'Hunter' for her Homogenic album (end of 97) and a musical friendship was struck. Their mutual respect as artist developed that led to Bjork pursuing Sam to sign up to her label One Little Indian.

State Of Bengal's reputation for pushing the boundaries and 'stepping out' to produce eclectic 'out of the box' albums as well as his archives of dance tracks has gained him further and continuing respect as one of the innovators and Pioneer's of the British Asian music scene. At present state of Bengal is working on 2 concept idea's including SKIP-IJ, a dance music conceptÉ..watch out for this one its gonna be hopping IN and OUT of the box!

"Live Re-Mixes & Spiritual-Self-Sampling" - TRIBAL BROADCAST FESTIVAL 2005: Celebrating Artistic Creation & Human Communication - January 21, 2005

TRIBAL BROADCAST FESTIVAL 2005:
Celebrating Artistic Creation & Human Communication
JAN 27th - MARCH 17th, 2005

1. Overall Concept: "Live Re-Mixes & Spiritual-Self-Sampling"

A bunch of US in a bunch of London venues coming together and getting the Gilmore/DRUM-FM remix flavour .... One Time, LIVE on stage! I'm taking this opportunity to ask my favorite artists to join me in this musical journey....a reflection of partners, collaborators and total bad-asses who have inspired me over the years, to re-visit music we've made, and hopefully take care of some unfinished musical business, as well!

If you know me just a little bit, then you know that it's always been about the music.... AND much, much more than the music. It's about the experience and how to share and spread this visceral energy throughout the planet! I really do feel that we as artists have a growing responsibility to communicate things to people that no one else can in such a powerful way... through the music. And there is sooooo much truth that needs to be exposed and sooooo many people that need to be fed, clothed and healed!

Umbrella Philosophy:

So, besides the obvious current moves we all gotta make in our music careers and also having this documentary of my 11-year London 'runnins' being made, this 7-week festival headed by my independent label TRIBAL BROADCAST RECORDINGS (TBR), is the embodiment of the philosophy behind a new type of humanitarian organization, The CHRONIC LOVE FOUNDATION (CLF). The Foundation was formally set up in 2003, along with my partner Mickey Smith; Dej Mahoney [Ex Sony Music, Vice President of Business Affairs, Independent Entertainment Attorney]; and David Malone [Barrister Criminal Law / Human Rights]. The specific aim: To implement credible mass market projects on a global scale for the betterment of humankind; Attacking the worlds major problems head-on through global, corporate, government and mass market investment through the work of a creative continuum of innovative global multi-media artists and professionals. We're not the first one to go down this road, but we sho'nuff got a different angle to drive it!

Whew! That said, my flagship (or rather, spaceship) project DRUM-FM and the TBR label have already set this musical agenda of bringing international artists together to celebrate traditional forms of music and culture on a futuristic multi-media twist with many live events, specifically: MILLENNIUM MIGRATION (Hackney Empire, 1999) and CREATION STEP (Barbican, 2001 with The Art Ensemble of Chicago) and with the release of the 4 DRUM-FM CDs (CREATION STEP Double CD, VORTEX EXTENTION, and the single CD Creation Step Re-release and the debut EP CD lest we forget....) alongside 2 new CDs from the project The CULTURE CHRONICS (the musical outlet of the CLF).

The particular goal at the moment is to galvanize those artists who already have the desire and ability to communicate with people on a global level....taking this as part of the overall responsibility of being an artist in todays mad, mad world. The CLF is not a charity organization, even though we will be raising funds in the future for various charitable works, etc. This Jazz Caf?ig is both the finale of the festival as well as a good launch for the CLF. This is a major element of where I am taking my career and re-defining the purpose for being in the entertainment industry as a whole.

Anyway, we are doing what we need to do to try and take this human situation to another level and apply our work as artist/entertainers for some global good....ya get me? Long story not-to-long (too late now, huh), we want to bring some attention to global matters with this festival and on the March date and still slam an audience into the musical-future!!!!!
